Had issues in using Altavista Youtube Downloader @ work (school) to grab Youtube videos for use within Moodle and other media to create T&L resources for DER.
Try http://keepvid.com/
This creates a *flv file. I find it’s a lot easier to manipulate an *.avi file so I then convert *.flv to *.avi with Altavista Youtube Downloader.

www.youtube.com has an incredible library of valuable video resources *and some stuff best described as ’scum’! So you have to work your searches to ‘quickly’ get access to the valuable resources for your classes/courses.
