L4L- Now DER. Ride the Tube!

A perfect fit… many of the digital videos available on YouTube are a perfect length (time) for inclusion in our lessons
www.youtube.com has an incredible library of valuable video resources *and some stuff best described as ’scum’! So you have to work your searches to ‘quickly’ get access to the valuable resources for your classes/courses.
Youtube is NOT available (at this moment) through NSW DET Internet filtering so you will need to transfer the downloaded video from home etc. and transfer to work.

Steps

  1. Download a program that allows you to capture/download YouTube video/s @…
http://youtubedownload.altervista.org/download.htm FREE and takes a short time to download and install.
  2. Open the application ‘YouTube Downloader’
  3. Open your Internet Browser eg. Internet Explorer
  4. Access ‘YouTube’… www.youtube.com
  5. Search for the video and begin to play
  6. Copy the Web Address of the video by highlighting and copy
  7. As you move to the ‘YouTube Downloader’ the address will automatically be inserted in the app. You can now download the video.

The format of the video will be ‘nameofvideo.flv’
Translate the video to ‘nameofvideo.avi’ or whatever format you have selected, AS A WHOLE SCHOOL, which will enable it to be edited, title screen added etc. then made available to students etc.
The possible uses of the video include:

  • downloading by students to their digital portable music device (eg. iPod etc.)
  • watching as a whole class
  • watching individually
  • inclusion in PowerPoint, eLearning eg. Moodle

Some other sites allow downloading without the need for the ‘YouTube Downloader’ eg.

http://www.teachertube.com/

http://www.abc.net.au

http://www.sbs.com.au

etc.

DO WE WANT TO DO THIS AS ISOLATED SCHOOL OR DO YOU WANT TO SHARE?

* There are some shortcuts to the process.
