I’m finding that the battery power of the Netbook is GREAT! However to conserve battery power turn OFF Bluetooth AND turn OFF WiFi when not needed.
WiFi: from the Netbbok keyboard -> top right -> green #WiFi key (picture of a computer with ears)
AND
Disable the BlueTooth device… [Fn] [F5] select Current status -> Disable BlueTooth
#Wireles Device Switch
To display, ‘send’ the signal from your ‘Netbook’ to a Smart Board you will need to:
HOLD the [Fn] Key and press ONCE the [F3] key (F3 has a small picture of computer screens).
The video display/signal will toggle/move through 3 outputs each time you hold [Fn] & press [F3]
1. Netbook screen only
2. Smart Board screen only
3. Netbook AND Smart board screens
This same procedure will need to be followed for Netbook connection to portable data projectors.
# ALWAYS check operation before your class begins.

Thanks to Twitter, here is a new video which promotes both ideas which are really useful, but issues a challenge as well

When IBM/Lenovo upgraded the memory of the Netbooks (in school) they MAY have failed to close the ‘hatch’/RAM cover properly. Check- you will need a torx screw driver to access the cover & reset properly. You can pick up a torx screw driver/set for under $10 from DSE- That’s Dick Smith Electronics NOT Dept. School Education.

It does say so BUT…
Battery Connection: Ensure latch is closed prior to moving system
*You have to physically move the latch to the lock position.

The batteries for the Lenovo ideapad netbook don’t have a ‘memory’ so you can charge them anytime @ any power level.
NB: Lenovo state… to increase the life of the battery, the computer will not start recharging the battery if the remaining power in NO less than 95%.

Gaining, regaining focus/attention.
Once the lid is closed… then opened the Netbook ‘wakes’ easily however the user is required to confirm their password to regain access. Although this is less that 10 secs. it will be a consideration in how the teacher/school determines a common ‘practice’! See earlier posts for DERNSW classroom management.
