The CC ‘District’ HT Meeting today featured Matt and James from Cherrybrook THS.
They presented their experiences in planning for and implementing the current (L4L) DER Netbook trial.
The following are notes taken during the presentation.

CTHS Strategies

Take Yr9 or selected groups/classes off ‘normal’ timetable for first 
2 weeks of Netbook beginning. To focus on curriculum through ICT 
technology focus! Team teaching… Supported by designated staff?

•Schools current WiFi access points currently DO NOT support new DER 
Netbooks!

•New DER Netbooks DO support outside WiFi eg. Macdonalds, home!

•Need to redesign our NEW DER WiFi plan before engineer meeting today as a result 
of todays meeting!!!!

Classroom Management

• Close lid, sleep. Quick re-log in
• Lid adjar- may not stop distraction
• Turn Netbook around to face teacher

Role of TSO?

• TSO MUST ring DET Service Desk for all approvals. Spends most of time on phone?
• Wider  Role should be managed by school? Whole school support. Otherwise not much to do! After initial RUSH!

Will not require constant Desktop support. Will require school specialist  to support DET  Network/Software/User support.

•••MUST focus on Moodle!

• Need powerboard access in each room for those that don’t charge their 
  batteries. Spare batteries?
• DER L4L NO Access to current school based Studentdata (WCS Network)
• Only way to move existing Student Files to New DER is via Memory Stick!

Charter

• Still being developed by DET? Have asked for a copy? Not released to public  yet!

WiFi Installation

• Will experience some disruption? Wasn’t that bad!

Windows OS 7

• Current OS 7 version on DER Netbooks is pre-release, which will in 
  the interim cause some issues that will be overcome in the near future?
  Looking @ OneNote as prefered WP. (over word) to Create, organise by 
  subject. Format pages eg. Science Experiment. Screen Clipping from 
  Internet & other apps. to OneNote.
• Student Teacher Survey B4 & after to evaluate & re-plan

Commissioning DER Netbooks

• BIG issues
• Must be done initially through LAN cable connection, then WiFi (TSO)  20mins +
• MUST have access to network… unplug current computer learning space systems, 
  attach Netbook. Needs Student in attendance.
• Once completed is STUDENT SPECIFIC- no one else

Staff NON specific

• Open to multiple staff users.

MUST look to Web based apps for students & staff.
